Britain proudly leads the world....

We have much to thank our inventive and industrious Victorian relatives for. One thing in particular is the advancement in glass design and manufacture.

The Great Exhibition of 1851 was the culmination of a period of intense activity in the British glasshouses. The excise duty on glass had been removed in 1845, and the British glassmakers were determined not only to excel in their traditional deeply cut crystal but also to rival the Bohemians and the French in coloured, layered, cut, etched and enamel-painted wares.

British Glassmaking talent confidently extended across a multitude of product groups leaving us today with a rich legacy of examples ranging from the finest blown glass to a huge variety of pressed, spun and moulded glass in a kaleidoscope of world beating colours.

Our search for the best affordable examples continues..........
