Stunning vintage oriental carved camphor wood storage chest designed in an Art Deco form with traditional historic Chinese scenes.
Made in Hong Kong, this intricately hand carved chest is offered in excellent condition throughout. 
Consisting of large circular drum form with hinged top opening access to internal storage. Original removable internal tray and decorative bronze oriental lock and key are all present. Main chest is raised on four braced swept legs with repeating carved pattern. 
The chest is intricately carved with various interwoven classic historic Chinese scenes and landscapes. The main scenes to the front include people in traditional dress, buildings, bridges, boats and trees all incredibly well carved thanks to the depth of relief in the carving. The outer edge has a band featuring a repeating pattern. The top and sides of the chest feature three carved scene panels depicting similar landscapes to the main front panel, each is expertly carved. 
Camphor wood is selected for its distinctive Eucalyptus like smell, excellent carving qualities and resistance to insect attack and repels moths, much used for campaign trunks, blanket boxes, etc.
