It’s not often we enjoy the opportunity of handling something famously used by intelligence agencies like the CIA and KGB during World War II and the Cold War. An item made familiar to us from Bond movies and spy stories.

Innovation, sophistication and luxurious style from 1958 - 1972 combine in this historically important camera which is small enough to hide in a closed hand or discretely about your personal or the heel of your shoe maybe?

We are talking about the Minox B subminiature film camera made in Germany, sleek aluminium body with the design and quality looks of a premium watch maker.

It exposes film through a 15mm F/3.5 high-quality lens. Using a proprietary Minox film cartridge the innovative telescopic plunging action of closing and opening the entirely mechanical camera advances the film to the next frame and cocks the shutter. Designed to provide fifty small format exposures (8 x 11mm frames) from a single roll of film.

Sleek low profile dial controls and small shutter button, slow speed of 1/2 second to a high speed of 1/1000th of a second, with bulb mode for long exposures. Focusing means using a focus scale – guess the distance to subject and set the dial to the appropriate number. Parallax compensation occurs automatically as the focus dial is turned. The minimum focus distance is 20cm, the attached chain has metal markers on its length that correspond with the distances marked on the focus dial. The entire chain is 60cm, shooting at this distance a standard A4-sized document fits perfectly within the viewfinder’s frame. Minox B’s has a built-in selenium light meter.

The camera is sold untested, on-line reviews paint a consistent picture that these cameras are extremely well made and reliable, shutter release, light meter, advance mechanism all working, we don’t know of any reason why this example wouldn’t work with film but we are unable to bench test, warranty or guarantee, sold for collector display.

This example comes with measuring chain, original leather case, flash gun accessory with leather case, a box containing 8 AG3B blue flashbulbs, aluminium binocular grip/camera holder accessory.
