This lovely vintage Mr Turnip Pelham Puppet is a classic 1951 marionette modeled after the popular British children's television character from the BBC show Whirligig. 
He was the first puppet character to be modelled after a T.V. character. This would later go on to be a rich seam of success for Pelham as they introduced other favourite children’s T.V. Characters.
This is an early SL version with its original wound copper curly hair and painted solid lead hands. He has his original costume, control strings and controller and comes with his original box with its Harrods stock label. The original full operating instructions, membership subscription letter and black tissue paper are also present and included.
The box is in good condition throughout, the puppet has mild signs of play wear to hands and green paint around the ears. His frilly shirt has some discolouration. Otherwise he is all present and in good order.
We always advise buyers that the cotton control strings can deteriorate over the years and periodically require replacement, if they intend to use the puppet regularly for its intended purpose more than static display they should consider replacing control strings ahead of use. This can be done whilst leaving the originals in place and then later removed.
