A rare surviving full colour British Railways carriage safety notice, framed under safety glass.
Once fixed within a slam-door carriage this public information safety poster graphically spells out the importance of not opening the carriage doors before the train stops.
'Don't open the door .... until the train has stopped’ - ‘Your thoughtless action can KILL or MAIM’ printed in bold font within a large red arrowhead pointing towards a scene of a young woman who has fallen from a train carriage at a station, being helped by a member of the public whilst other people look on.
The poster is presented within a moulded wooden frame which would have been screw fixed within the carriage. To the rear are four retainers which allow access for posters/notices to be periodically interchanged.
A striking piece of period communication dating from the 1950’s.
