The various figures in the street scene are all fashionable dressed, with finely tailored clothing, the men wear fine quality black top hats and the women and children wear bonnets, straw hats and parasols. The scene includes period carriages, riders on horseback and a perspective of vernacular architecture. Quality lithographic print within 5 line border. From a series of "Views of New York" published by Currier & Ives of New York. Founded by Nathaniel Currier in 1835, Currier & Ives was the major poster firm of the nineteenth century. James Merritt Ives joined Currier in 1857, and the two produced some of the most popular images of the period. Together they published many thousands of prints of typical scenes of the day that are still sought by serious collectors today. The firm Currier and Ives described itself as "Publishers of Cheap and Popular Prints". At least 7,500 lithographs were published in the firm's 72 years of operation.
