This fine quality engraving with hand coloured aquatint was executed by esteemed engraver Francis Eginton (1737 - 1805) who was one of the country’s finest stained glass painters.
The engraving was published as part of a series by Rev Stebbing Shaw FSA. Shaw’s publication ‘The History and Antiquities of Staffordshire’ is recognised as an important source of economic, social, topographical and cultural record of the the late 18thC.
Mathew Boulton was a leading industrialist of the period who established model manufacturing premises at Soho, 2 miles south of Birmingham. Boulton built various manufacturing works, a mint and a substantial house on the same site surrounded by the finest landscaping and lake.
