Hearts of Oak Benefit Society antique chromolithograph membership certificate dated 1906.

Presented to members by the friendly society which was focused on providing insurance and other benefits to its members.

Framed by antique oak frame and clear acetate, full colour Chromolithograph featuring well executed vignette scenes centred around the 131-guns warship 'Hearts of Oak' between small tug paddlesteamers, the oak representing strength and security. Jack Tar sailors and travellers 'homeward bound' on deck in scene below. Other vignettes of old oak houses 1598, furniture 1617. To the top we have figures of Britannia. Agriculture, Commerce. At the bottom we have King Neptune. Father Thames flank emblem of felled oak log and axes.

Hearts of Oak Benefit Society History -

• Founded in 1842, it was one of the largest friendly societies in the UK.

• Initially aimed to protect members from distress due to sickness.

• Evolved to offer a broader range of financial services like pensions, savings, and banking.

• In 1993, it changed its name to Hearts of Oak Friendly Society Ltd.

• Later became part of the Utmost Life and Pensions group.
