A rare opportunity to own a large format Lucky Cat all the way from Japan.

The Luck Cat (Maneki Neko) is a talisman that is believed to attract good luck and fortune for its owners, commonly found on display in stores, restaurants and other businesses.

Lucky Cats first appeared during the Edo period in Japan (17th century to mid-19th century). It has different meanings subject to which paw the Maneki Neko cat is holding up, If it’s the left paw, this is supposed to attract customers. If the right paw is raised, this invites good fortune and money.

Cats come in different colours each providing good luck (health, wealth, love, etc.) our cat is regarded as the luckiest colour. 

If you look closely cats have a collar, bib, bell or vest and hold different lucky items, coins, gems, carp, mallet, hammer, prayer tablets, radishes or gold ingots like ones our cat is holding.

Cats of this size sell for up to $600.

Our 20thC vintage lucky cat used to greet visitors to a business in Japan until he was torn from his base. The bottom 2 inches of fibreglass were completely ripped off and he could no longer be displayed. Rather than being sent to the great recycle centre in the sky he was placed in storage. Let’s consider this as the unfortunate loss of one of his nine lives. 

Skipping forward in time he was found, salvaged and shipped to the U.K. in his broken condition and unbelievably didn’t sustain any further damage in transit. Given all events and his location in the container we consider this was the second of his nine lives spent!

We have carefully repaired him to allow him to stand and be displayed once more. He exhibits various scuffs, chips, marks from his life in service which all add to his charm and character. Please refer to the high resolution images for condition.

Our cat is looking for a caring new owner who will love him despite all his flaws, somewhere he can enjoy a more gentle life to avoid any risk of losing any of his remaining 7 lives!
