Attractive Victorian mahogany bedstead dating from Circa 1860. 
Recently removed from its original home, a Grade l listed Georgian country house in Gloucestershire, this item has been photographed after initial gentle cleaning has been carried out but prior to final polishing which will be concluded ahead of collection/delivery. 
This fabulous English bedstead was specially commissioned as a Victorian wedding gift and remained in the same family home for the last 160 years. 
Given the substantial nature of components the bed is designed to be easily dismantled for relocation, it incorporates cast iron dovetails and strategically located coach screws to connect the headboard and footboard via two impressively deep side rails. 
The flame mahogany footboard is raised on carved tapering octagonal column supports with solid turned cuff and cup bun feet with brass and ceramic castor and large format mushroom finials to the top, arched serpentine profile half round top rail, semicircular moulded detail in relief with carved foliate cartouche feature to external face. The flame mahogany headboard is raised on square section column supports with turned ball finial, brass and ceramic castor to base, arched serpentine profile half round top rail, semi circular relief moulded detail to inside face with carved foliate cartouche.
The base includes a longitudinal support rail and numbered bed base slats (one missing slat will be reproduced ahead of delivery). All original coach bolts are present and working as they should.
There are signs of historical woodworm to internal corner blocks and lower panels, as a precautionary measure the entire bed has been liberally treated with wood worm treatment, there are three localised areas of veneer loss, losses will be matched and replaced ahead of sale.
A wonderful piece of Victorian furniture, designed to be installed through tight staircases and doorways this feature rich bed is the perfect bedroom centrepiece.
