Antique hand coloured engraving ‘At Henley Regatta’ from an issue of THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS newspaper, published in London on July 7th 1888. Drawn by Tom Taylor based on first hand observations. This large format folio was a double page engraved illustration including its central fold. Given the quality of the composition and fine engraving the print was then coloured by hand in the style popular of the day. The scene includes a detailed insight into fashions of the day and illustrates the popularity of the event before it received Royal patronage. Servants serve a picnic on the banks of the Thames as racing takes place nearby. In the foreground a fortune teller entertains a young couple whilst other members of the party wave handkerchiefs to encourage the rowers. This genuine antique print is in good condition, colours remain strong. Nicely framed under glass in quality gilt moulded wooden frame with lined mount.
