Large, high quality, Art Deco Modernist pedestal desk in Walnut. Previously belonging to Francis Neville, adopted son of Architect and Potter Hugh Thackery Turner, a high profile contemporary of William Morris.
The well thought through demountable design of this desk incorporates delightfully simple signature Art Deco architectural features and incredibly clever storage space planning. The bespoke innovative design suggests it was designed by an architect/designer to their own exacting standards.
Comprising of one piece desk top with rounded edge detail, instep front edge and carved inset detail to rear edge and to the corner top rails, two pedestals incorporating three drawers to the front of each pedestal with geometric art deco design pull handles, hinged fielded panel side cupboard door on each outside pedestal face revealing removable drawer storage over narrow plinth base. To the rear is a removable full width, full depth vanity panel incorporating two grip spaces.
For ease of relocation the desk can be disassembled into top, rear vanity panel, two separate pedestals (left hand and right hand).
The desk is in very good condition throughout, cleaned and polished ready for immediate use by its new owner. The graining pattern helps create a standout piece and the mid tone hues allow this piece to sit alongside darker and lighter timber species.
Maximum width 136cm, maximum depth 94cm, overall height 74cm.
Knee space 49cm wide, 65cm tall in the centre.
Desk top 131cm wide, 87cm deep.
Side doors require 40cm clear opening to each side of the desk.
