Antique Japanese Kanto Style Kannon-Biraki Isho-dansu Tansu. 

This furniture piece was designed to be frequently transported between locations. Often referred to as a "wedding chest," this style of tansu stored a bride's wedding kimono. Edo period circa 1860.

Iron hinged doors open to reveal 4 drawers, a characteristic of the earliest form of kanto style chests. Five iron hinges flank each door and iron strapping surrounding a round foliate lockplate at the center.

Rich tones of rustic autumn chestnut and a unique time served rustic patina combine to create a truly unique piece of furniture.

Original hand crafted ironwork detailing all present including internal door retainer.

Versatile 4 drawer storage behind double hinged doors plus original secret drawer which cleverly resides to the rear of one of the smaller drawers.

Stylish quality metal hairpin legs add a further degree of practicality.

Ideal for bedrooms, hallways and living spaces. This item could also be used for home study storage or possibly be used as a feature rich T.V..
