Early 1900’s wood and steel banded steamer trunk of large format. Ideal for home storage, bringing unique character and style to the space.

A derivative of the closet trunk, this trunk can be used horizontally or stood on its end with the domed end at the top. Constructed from a mix of canvas, wood, steel, vulcanised rubber with metal clasps and hinges. Black livery with white stencilled letters, fabric lined interior.
The interior is accessed by two hinged flaps which can be opened independently, this provides unhindered access to the interior. This trunk would have originally had a hanging rail in the top.
History
Innovation Trunk Company, based in New York, was a manufacturer of wardrobe trunks, particularly known for their "Closet Trunk" design which was patented by Seymour W. Bonsall in 1900. The company gained prominence by producing high-quality, innovative travel trunks for affluent travelers.
Size - 142cm long, 63cm deep, 55cm tall as displayed.
This piece is 264cm long when the flaps are open. When opening the flap a space of 117cm will be required if the trunk is laid horizontally as per our photographs.
