19th Century Japanese Hasami Bako Black Lacquer storage box / coffer.

A quality antique with solid copper hinged stirrup carry handles, elaborately engraved copper mounts and straps.

Internally the box has its original removable lacquered top tray and paper lining.

The lacquer has flaked in a few areas and the original gilding has worn from the copper metal mounts (The intricate engraving is unaffected and still clear to see). A corner mount is missing bottom front right.

At some point in its history this item appears to have been overpainted externally with a clear varnish or polish. The piece would benefit from being re-lacquered or French Polished if the new owner requires a polished finish.
