The post war 1950’s period produced some of the most original and striking automotive, aeronautical and marine craft designs. The rising optimism and confidence of the day and the growing interest in all things space related inspired some of the most lavish industrial design. Leading automotive designers who were riding high on the success in automobile sales were encouraged to share their talents in the world of personal marine vessels. This stimulus produced some of the most beautiful wooden craft ever designed. Refered to as ‘jewellery’ within design circles, lighting components, trim, handles, branding elements, etc. received extra special design attention leading to some of the most lavish signature designs. This extended across both automobiles and marine. We are pleased to introduce this stunning piece of marine design, a cross between ‘Jet Age’ space design and futuristic (still to be conceived) catamaran design, 1950’s Nautalloy CR627 bow marker light by Tom Faul Design of the United States. This particular example comes complete with its all important original ribbed green and red lens’s and its whale tail flag mast. Rewired for mains electricity this feature piece has been mounted on a reclaimed 1940s Bakelite plinth. It includes vintage style fabric covered twisted power cord in a 50’s shade of powder blue! This is a genuine previously used marine item, our images illustrate some pitting to the chrome finish and historical cracks to the coloured lens. This is part of this items life story and distinguish it from reproduction. A wonderful desk ornament with the benefit of low energy lighting adding to the design and sense of marine nostalgia. £265.00 including postage to U.K. zone 1 addresses.
